Client
Our client has a rich history of providing public transport in Australia, with a large fleet of vehicles. They are an integral part of CBD infrastructure and culture, delivering services on a world-record breaking scale. They are committed to providing reliable services that are safe and accessible, in collaboration with other public transport industry organisations.
Opportunity
Our client needed to replace their backup platform, to reduce the complexity of their data backup environment and improve their recovery posture. The existing backup environment did not meet the scalability needs that our client required, so this was a priority for the new solution. They were using tape archival which was having a significant impact on their total cost of ownership.
A key objective was to achieve near-instant Recovery Time Objective (RTO), the time taken to recover IT infrastructure and services following a disaster, and below 15-minute Recovery Point Objective (RPO), the amount of data that can be lost if a critical event occurs. It was also important to ensure our client had a compliant solution that could continue to serve their backup needs into the future.
Solution
Outcomex delivered a next-generation data protection platform that enables a 3-2-1 backup strategy. The solution consolidated all backup data onto the Cohesity data platform. This is simpler than other offerings on the market, delivering a single web-scale data management platform with a simple policy-driven user interface. By transitioning to a cloud-based backup environment, Outcomex was able to move our client away from tape archiving.

Impact
The Outcomex solution succeeded in reducing the complexity of our client’s backup and recovery, consolidating multiple management interfaces to one policy-driven interface, simplifying management. The transformation project surpassed some of the objectives set by the client, achieving an RPO of below 5-minutes was achieved, beyond the target of below 15-minutes.
The solution improved total cost of ownership by reducing the physical footprint required and increasing operational savings. The benefits are ongoing, with a next-generation data protection platform that scales without disruption.
